Switching Accountants

Switch to better accounting — no disruption, no stress, just results

Quick Transfer

Switching Made Simple

Many people stay with an accountant longer than they should, simply because they assume switching will be a hassle. In reality, transferring to a new accountant is a quick and simple process—especially when you have the right support.

  • From the moment you decide to switch to Finanche Limited, we take care of everything.

  • We’ll contact your previous accountant on your behalf, request the necessary handover information, and arrange for your records to be transferred securely.

  • There’s no awkward conversation or admin on your part—just a clean, professional transition.

We also work with all major cloud accounting platforms like Xero, QuickBooks, and Sage, so your software setup won’t be affected. In most cases, the full handover process is completed within a week—without any disruption to your business.

Frequently Asked Questions

Clear answers to your accountant switching questions: helping you make a smooth and confident transition

  • Is it difficult to switch accountants?

Not at all.
Switching accountants is a straightforward process and can be done at any time of the year—not just at year-end. Your new accountant (that’s us!) will handle the transition for you, including requesting professional clearance and all necessary handover documents from your previous accountant. It’s usually seamless and doesn’t require much action on your part beyond signing a few forms.

Tip. Do leave some constructive feedback to accountants. We deal with people and majority of us want to do a good job for our customers. This should help them improve in the future.

  • Why do businesses switch accountants?

Common reasons include:

  • Lack of proactive advice or communication
  • Feeling like you’re not getting value for money
  • Outgrowing your current accountant’s capabilities
  • Needing support with cloud accounting, tax planning, or funding
  • Poor service or delayed filings

If your accountant isn’t helping you grow or stay compliant efficiently, it may be time for a change.

Tip. Common theme we hear from new customers it that, “I have sent them an email two weeks ago and still no reply”, or “it is not possible to reach them anymore”. If this is you, then probably it is time for a change.

  • When is the best time to change accountants?

You can switch at any time, but many choose to do so:

  • At the end of a financial year for a clean break
  • After filing the year-end accounts or tax returns
  • When starting a new project (e.g., switching to cloud accounting, restructuring, seeking funding)

What matters most is that the new accountant can take over without disrupting your business operations which we ensure through a structured onboarding process.

Tip. If you have staff on payroll, try switching after the last payment run. This will avoid a scramble for information and annoying your staff.

  • What documents do I need to provide when switching?

To switch, you typically need to:

  • Sign a Letter of Engagement with your new accountant
  • Provide ID and proof of address for anti-money laundering checks
  • Authorise your new accountant to speak with HMRC (via a 64-8 form or agent authorisation)
  • Notify your old accountant (we can assist with this professionally)

Once authorised, we’ll take care of gathering previous accounts, tax returns, VAT records, payroll files, and other key documents.

Tip. If you can obtain majority of the documents prior to notifying your accountant you are leaving this will avoid possible delays as a lot of them have two to three weeks clearance policies.

  • Will my previous accountant cooperate with the handover?

Most accountants will cooperate professionally as part of industry standards and codes of conduct. They’re expected to provide timely handover information, including working papers, trial balances, and any outstanding issues.

If there’s any resistance or delay, we handle it diplomatically while keeping your compliance and deadlines protected.

Tip. Try to maintain professionalism and don’t get into an argument with the prior accountant. This can create delays. Let the new accountant handle things professionally.
