The Challenge

Cross-border tax can be a minefield. Whether you’re moving to the UK, investing from abroad, or running a business that spans multiple countries, it’s essential to understand how different tax systems interact.

At Finanche Limited, we work closely with clients to navigate the UK’s tax rules while also considering the impact of foreign tax systems and international agreements.

Core Services

Services We Offer

Double Tax Treaties

We help our clients understand how these treaties apply to their situation, ensuring that foreign income is taxed fairly and that all available exemptions or credits are claimed. This is particularly relevant for clients with income or assets in countries such as India or Hong Kong, where the correct application of treaty provisions can significantly reduce your tax burden.

Split Year Treatment

We advise on this complex UK tax provision that applies when someone arrives in or leaves the UK part-way through a tax year. When applied correctly, it allows only the UK portion of your income to be taxed. We work with internationally mobile professionals and families to ensure it’s handled properly.

International Tax Planning & HMRC Compliance

Whether you're a non-resident with UK income, a UK resident earning abroad, or planning an international move, we help structure your affairs efficiently and stay compliant with UK and international tax laws.

Frequently Asked Questions

Clear answers for global tax compliance — supporting your cross-border operations with expert clarity

  • Who is considered a UK tax resident?

Residency is determined by the Statutory Residence Test, which considers:

  • Days spent in the UK
  • Ties to the UK (e.g., family, accommodation, work)
  • Past UK residency
  • Do UK residents pay tax on foreign income?

Yes. UK tax residents are generally taxed on their worldwide income, though non-domiciled individuals can sometimes use the remittance basis (only pay tax on foreign income brought into the UK).

  • What is the remittance basis?

It allows UK residents who are non-domiciled to pay UK tax only on foreign income and gains remitted (brought) into the UK. However:

  • A charge applies if you’ve been UK resident for a long time (7+ years out of 9).
  • You must claim it on your tax return.
  • What is a Double Taxation Agreement (DTA)?

A DTA is a treaty between the UK and another country to prevent the same income being taxed twice.

  • How is foreign tax relieved in the UK?

The UK offers Foreign Tax Credit Relief. You may offset foreign tax paid against your UK tax liability
