- What accounting standards should my company use—IFRS or FRS 102/105?
In the UK, the accounting framework you use depends on your company’s size and whether it’s part of a group:
- FRS 105: For micro-entities (very small companies).
- FRS 102 (Section 1A): For small companies.
- FRS 102 (full): For medium to large companies.
- IFRS: Required for listed companies and may be used voluntarily by others.
Most small to medium-sized private companies choose FRS 102 due to its simplicity and lighter disclosure requirements compared to IFRS. Tip. Under FRS105 the company accounts disclosures are very minimal. It is great if you don’t want everyone in the general public to know how much you have in the business bank account at the end of the year.
