Everything about payroll
When should you register for payroll in UK?
In the UK, you should register your company for payroll with HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) as soon as you start paying employees. This includes registering for PAYE (Pay As You Earn) and obtaining an employer reference number. You will also need to register for National Insurance and set up a system to deduct and report employee taxes. It is important to stay compliant with all regulations and deadlines to avoid penalties.
Examples of when you should register your company for payroll with HMRC in the UK include:
- When you hire your first employee: As soon as you start paying employees, you are required to register for payroll with HMRC.
- When you become an employer: If you were previously a sole trader and now have employees, you need to register for payroll.
- When your business structure changes: If you change the structure of your business, such as from a partnership to a limited company, you will need to register for payroll again.
- When your business location changes: If your business moves to a new location in the UK, you will need to register for payroll with the HMRC office that covers that area.
